Polish investors interested in FEZ Vitebsk projects

Polish investors are interested in projects designed to start manufacturing construction materials in the free economic zone Vitebsk, it was learnt from Sergei Stashevsky, Deputy Head of the FEZ Vitebsk Administration, after a delegation of the FEZ Vitebsk visited in late June. 

Several companies, which are members of the Northern Chamber of Economy of Poland, showed interest in FEZ Vitebsk’s investment potential. Preliminary agreements to set up a joint venture and start manufacturing heavy-duty construction materials have been reached with the company Arbet. The company specialises in manufacturing concrete goods using hyperpressing. In addition, the company Rogmet is considering the proposal to set up an enterprise to manufacture metal construction materials in the FEZ Vitebsk. 

It was possible to promote the FEZ Vitebsk potential in thanks to vigorous cooperation with the Polish company Dazin. FEZ Vitebsk and Dazin are linked by a cooperation agreement. In line with the document the sides assist Belarusian and Polish companies in implementing joint investment projects in and , initiate joint business meetings and consultations for interested business circles of the two countries. The cooperation has resulted in the business meeting at the Northern Chamber of Economy of Poland. Over 1,300 companies are members of the Northern Chamber of Economy of Poland. At least a quarter of them are manufacturers that offer construction materials, furniture, alternative energy solutions, remarked Sergei Stashevsky. 

The FEZ Vitebsk administration believes that cooperation with Polish business is one of the top priority avenues of investment cooperation. The FEZ Vitebsk has reached agreements on information exchange and promotion of FEZ Vitebsk opportunities with the Polish-Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Polish-German Club, several investment companies and banking institutions. Business communication will continue at the Pomorskie Economic Forum in November 2009. A delegation of the Vitebsk oblast is supposed to take part in the forum. 

The free economic zone Vitebsk was founded on 4 August 1999. Today there are 34 resident companies in the FEZ with investors from 13 countries including , the , the , , Czechia, and . The resident companies offer fuel, chemical, light industry, mechanical engineering products, food and are involved in scientific research. The free economic zone includes seven sectors, with the total area exceeding 1,200 hectares.
