Belarus’ PM to take part in Belarus-Moscow Business Cooperation Forum


 Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Sidorsky will travel to the Russian Federation on 24 November to take part in the sixth Belarus-Moscow Business Cooperation Forum, it was learnt from the Council of Ministers’ Office.

The head of government will take part in a ceremony of opening the National Exhibition of Belarus at the All-Russian Exhibition Center in Moscow. The Belarusian Premier is also scheduled to meet with Mayor of Moscow Yury Luzhkov. Then Sergei Sidorsky and Yury Luzhkov will take part in a session of the Belarus-Moscow Business Cooperation Council.

The National Exhibition will be held on 21-27 November. The event is organized by the Belexpo national exhibition center of the President’s Property Management directorate and Belinterexpo of the Belarusian chamber of commerce and industry. The area of the exhibition is 600 square meters of indoor space and 400 square meters in the outdoor. Around 100 Belarusian companies will present their products at the exhibition.

The forum features over 100 projects in the areas of nano-technology and nano-materials, energy-conservation and resource-saving, medicine and healthcare, municipal services. Upon the recommendation of the expert council, 19 projects, including seven Moscow-Belarusian joint projects and six Belarusian ones, have been included in the cooperation programme of the Republic of Belarus and the city of Moscow.

The session of the Business Cooperation Council will discuss the results of the Days of the Republic of Belarus in Moscow in 2009. The sides will also study the progress in promoting the bilateral trade, economic, sci-tech, humanitarian, cultural and social cooperation in 2007-2009, fulfillment of investment projects in Moscow and Minsk. The participants of the session will discuss the development of projects recommended by the expert council to be included in the investment cooperation programme of the Republic of Belarus and the city of Moscow.

High on the agenda will be the issues regarding the development of cooperative links between enterprises of Moscow and Belarus and the results of specialized exhibition/fairs of Belarusian producers in Moscow in 2009 and preparation for the forthcoming New Year and Christmas fairs.

Specialists have prepared the Belarus-Moscow programme on developing the trade, economic, sci-tech, humanitarian, cultural and social cooperation in 2010-2012. The programme is to be discussed during the session of the Belarus-Moscow Business Cooperation Council.

The forum will close the Days of the Republic of Belarus in Moscow. A gala-concert “Children of Belarus and Moscow Sing Together” will finish the Days. The Days of the Republic of Belarus in Moscow opened in the Russian capital on 24 February 2009. The two sides organized the days of economy, culture, education and mass media. From June to November this year, the days of Belarus’ oblasts and Minsk were held in the Moscow administrative districts.

In January-September 2009, Moscow accounted for 13.4% of the Belarusian foreign trade. During the period under review, the trade between Belarus and the Russian capital made up $2.2 billion (the 2nd place among Russian regions after the Tyumen oblast). The export of Belarusian goods to Moscow reached $1.2 billion (the 1st place), import - $1 billion (the 2nd place among Russian regions after the Tyumen oblast). In January-September 2009, the trade shrank two times, export – 1.9 times, import – two times as against the same period last year. Belarus had a surplus in trade with Moscow at the amount of $171.6 million (down 1.3 times as against January-September 2008).

In January-September 2009, Belarus exported 678 types of goods to Moscow as against 707 types of goods in January-September 2008. At the same time, Belarus imported 866 types of goods from Moscow as against 928 types of goods in January-September 2008.
