More than 2,000 types of Belarusian-made products can be CE marked

More than 2,000 types of products of Belarusian producers can be CE marked, it was learnt from the press service of the State Committee for Standardization.

These are combine harvesters by Gomselmash, STIM road-marking machines, Atlant refrigerators and gas and electrical stoves by Brestgazoapparat, Mogilevliftmash lifts, Gomelsteklo float-glass, Beltex Optic night vision devices, Polesye toys and others.

The number of products that can be CE marked is continuously growing in Belarus. This became possible after the advanced testing facility in Belarus had been created. Agreements have been signed with the EU notified certification and testing bodies (Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Slovakia) based on the recognition of the tests carried out in Belarus for compliance of the products with European requirements.

Tests serve as the basis to ensure control over safety and quality of products. It is almost impossible to develop competitive products without a strong up-to-date test basis, the State Committee for Standardization stressed. In this respect the relevant laws have been adopted in Belarus. The country has defined mandatory requirements to the products and formed necessary infrastructure for certification bodies and testing laboratories.

Today there are over 3,000 accredited testing laboratories in Belarus. Almost all of them have been certified with the STB ISO/IEC 17025 standards, which secures the single approach to their compliance with the international requirements. It is an important factor in boosting the export of domestic products and providing control over the safety of the products and raw material coming to the country; it helps create conditions for recognizing the results of the tests and accreditation.

Creating the conditions necessary for ensuring free delivery of products to foreign markets, increasing the export of domestic products, eliminating technical barriers in trade remain the most important area of activity of the State Committee for Standardization of Belarus.

The State Committee for Standardization of Belarus (Gosstandart) has developed a draft programme of bringing the national standards in line with international and European standards in machine building, electrical engineering, oil and gas production, information technologies, logistics. The draft programme has been improved taking into account the proposals of the government bodies and Belarusian companies. The document has been submitted to the Council of Ministers.

The emphasis is placed on improving energy saving and energy efficiency with the help of technical regulation, standardization and verification of conformity. The concept of standardization and conformity assessment in energy saving till 2015 will be soon completed.

Another important task is to develop effective actions in food industry. The draft interstate programme for standardization in food industry has been designed by the State Committee for Standardization of Belarus in order to reduce technical barriers in mutual trade, make food products more competitive and compliant with modern requirements. The development of interstate standards will be based on European and international standards, including those of the ISO, Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC). The draft programme is to be submitted for discussion in February 2010.
