Belarus’ accession to Russia is out of question, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Belarus Alexander Surikov told a press conference in Minsk.

“They can say whatever they want to. By and large, I agree with Alexander Lukashenko who says that Russians and Belarusians are one people. In terms of historical, intellectual and religious unity this is truly so. But we are two different sovereign states,” the diplomat said.

Alexander Surikov reminded the journalists that Belarus and Russia are two sovereign subjects of international law. There are no supra-national bodies and authorities in the Union State. “The customs functions will be the first functions that we will transfer to the supra-national level,” he said.
