The issues of boosting trade and diversifying all-round cooperation were high on the agenda of the meeting between Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Belarus Michel Raineri and the authorities of Grodno and the Grodno Oblast in the Grodno oblast executive committee on 23 June. The diplomat has arrived to the Grodno Oblast on a two-day visit, BelTA has learnt.In January-April the Grodno Oblast exported over $2.3 million worth of products to France. Its import made up $7.4 million. A decrease in the export was attributed to the reduced supplies of nitrogen fertilizers by the Grodno Azot Company (in January-April 2009 they reached $3.9 million). According to First Deputy Director General of Grodno Azot Denis Kolosov, additional duties restrict the export of liquid nitrogen fertilizers to France. He addressed the French diplomat with a request to raise a question on their removal. In January-April the Grodno Oblast exported furniture ($716,000), clothes ($526,000), tinned vegetables ($221,400), charcoal ($197,500), tableware ($106,600). The deliveries of tinned vegetables rose 2.1 times as compared to the same period last year. The export of furniture grew 41.6%. Belarus imported French insecticides and herbicides ($1.8 million). The import of animal food made up $1.4 million, 8.6 times up over January-April 2009. France maintains trade and economic relations with Elod, Neman Glass Factory, Bigan, Bydimex, Mostodrev, Biokom, Bioprodukt, Foodpack, Khimvolokno. While in the Grodno Oblast, Michel Raineri plans to get familiar with the region, its economic potential, cultural heritage. On 23 June the French Ambassador saw the sights of the oblast center and several large companies of the Grodnoinvest free economic zone. On 24 June the diplomat is expected to meet with the clergy of the region, pay a visit to Grodno school No8 with advanced learning of the French language. www.belta.by Back to "All news" | Print version
