Belarus, Lithuania to enhance capacity of customs clearance points

The customs services of Belarus and Lithuania have agreed to enhance the handling capacity of customs clearance points. The relevant agreement was reached at the meeting between Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Belarus Alexander Shpilevsky and Director General of the Customs Department under the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Lithuania Antanas Sipavicius, BelTA learnt from the State Customs Committee of Belarus. The meeting was held at the Kamenny Log checkpoint on the Belarus-Lithuania border upon the initiative of Belarus.

The customs chiefs discussed ways to deal with emerging lines on the Belarus-Lithuania border, and enactment of the agreement between the government of the Republic of Belarus and the government of the Republic of Lithuania on the small-scale border traffic.

The parties emphasized the need for the optimal disposition of customs officers and reinforcement of customs units during peak hours and days. They agreed to keep each other updated on the situation at checkpoints and measures to deal the lines.

They came up with minimal throughput rates of vehicles; customs clearance for them has to be done within one day. The handling capacity of the Kamenny Log checkpoint will be increased by 20% and that of Kotlovka by 85% of their designed capacity.

To prevent duplication checks of vehicles, the parties agreed to inform each other about the results of customs clearance procedures using the customs examination complex. Vehicles that passed the examination complex will not be checked again by the neighboring country.
