Belarus welcomes Poland’s decision on free national visas

The Belarusian side welcomes Poland’s decision to introduce free national visas, spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of Belarus Andrei Savinykh told BelTA.

“We hail the decision. Belarus has always advocated facilitation or full abolishment of visa requirements. We believe the decision of the Polish side is a step in the right direction,” Andrei Savinykh said.

In his words, the decision applies only to national visas issued for more than 90 days within six months. National visas are given to certain categories of people that can provide additional confirmation on the necessity for long stay in Poland.

Andrei Savinykh expressed confidence that direct contacts between the two nations would promote better mutual understanding and contribute to bilateral cooperation. “We are convinced that these processes will help our partners to understand better the political and social situation in Belarus and work out more adequate and rational approaches to bilateral cooperation,” he noted.

“We hope Poland’s example will prompt negotiations between Belarus and the European Commission on facilitating visa regime, the issue which the Belarusian state has been negotiating over the last several years,” Andrei Savinykh added.
