Delegations from 15 countries to arrive in Minsk for MILEX 2011

Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Nikolai Bordiuzha and defense ministers of several countries will attend the sixth international armaments and materiel expo MILEX 2011 in Minsk, representatives of the State Defense Industries Committee of Belarus told BelTA.

The expo will take place in Minsk on 24-27 May. Twenty delegations from 15 countries (Turkey, Angola, UAE, Laos, CIS states and so on) will arrive in Minsk. Over 130 organizations from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Armenia have confirmed their plans to participate in the expo, with 87 organizations representing Belarus. The expo will occupy over 4,000 square meters in the open air and around 2,000 square meters indoors.

The expo will feature various defense products. In particular, it will present mobile antitank missile systems Karakal and portable antitank systems Korsar.

Visitors will be able to get familiar with geoinformation systems, radio communication solutions, including digital Belarus-made ones. Belarusian manufacturers will showcase an armored notebook fit for combat conditions, a multiple-computer special assignments system Arbalet. Mobile vehicles made by MAZ and MZKT will be on display along with unmanned aerial vehicles and a multitude of other promising armaments and special hardware.

As part of the expo a session of the Business Council under the CSTO Interstate Commission for Military and Economic Cooperation will take place along with the third session of the coordinating council of CSTO member states’ plenipotentiaries for advertising and exhibition activities. Various avenues of cooperation, development and manufacturing cooperation between defense industries of the CSTO member states will be discussed taking into account the existing legal base for military and economic cooperation.

On 26 May a roundtable session “Ways to improve the collective rapid response forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization” will take place. Matters relating to the development of a draft interstate program for equipping the CSTO rapid response forces with modern and advanced weaponry and special vehicles.

The MILEX 2011 schedule also includes the fifth international scientific conference on military technical problems, defense and security problems, and utilization of double-purpose technologies. Various organizations from Russia, Lithuania, Romania, Ukraine, Serbia, Bulgaria, and Germany have submitted around 340 applications for participation in the conference.

New magazines “VPK. Belarus” and “Soyuzniki ODKB” will be presented at the expo as the release of their first editions is timed to MILEX 2011.
