Belarus plans to create transport and logistics association

There are plans to set up a transport and logistics association in Belarus, BelTA learnt from Sergei Negrei, the head of foreign trade and transport logistics at the Ministry of Transport and Communications.

The new association will contribute to more effective development of the transport and logistics system in Belarus, promote an inflow of foreign investment in the sector, facilitate cooperation between government agencies and freight logistics companies, and also promote innovations into transportation and logistics. “This project will get underway in the near future. This is extremely important for effective management and coordination of all processes in the transport and logistics sector,” Sergei Negrei said.

Conditions and terms for the establishment and operation of the new association will soon be discussed in Minsk in a special meeting of representatives from the Ministry of Transport and Communication, Trade Ministry, and mangers of transportation and logistics companies.

Sergei Negrei also said that Belarus is in talks to attract foreign investment in the logistics industry with a number of foreign companies. Belarus is studying best international experience to upgrade its transport system. For example, in August a Belarusian delegation will travel to Lithuania to learn how the logistics market operates in that country, and which mechanisms are used to promote interaction between government bodies and commercial organizations in this sector.

As previously reported, Belarus is set to invest over Br3 trillion in logistics projects in the next five years. Currently, 23 investment logistics centers projects are underway in the country to. Investment agreements have already been concluded to build another 17 logistics centers in Belarus
