An international seminar dedicated to detecting and suppressing white-collar crimes will be held in Minsk

An international seminar dedicated to detecting and suppressing white-collar crimes in government agencies will be held in Minsk in late October upon the initiative of the State Customs Committee of Belarus, the press service of the State Customs Committee told BelTA.

Representatives of police agencies of the European Union will take part in the event. International practices used to prevent corruption actions will be studied at the seminar.

According to the source, prevention measures are regularly taken. In January-September 2011 Belarusian customs officers prevented 309 attempts to bribe customs officials. In 2010 303 attempts were suppressed.

Belarus’ Customs urges travellers to make sure that nothing unnecessary is contained in the documents they give to customs officials such as money, which can be treated as an attempt to bribe customs officials.

Citizens are encouraged to phone +375-17-218-92-92 or leave a message at the State Customs Committee website to report abuse of office, incorrect treatment by officials, and extortion.
